Villages

La Vernaz, a peaceful mountain village nestled into the hillside like a sentry standing guard between the Aulps valley and the Brevon valley.
On the Dranse side, two pillars, vestiges of fortifications erected by the mountain-dwellers of the XVI century against the invading Swiss mark the entrance to this village. These symbolic gateways are called the "Portes de la Garde" or the "Portes des Véros" which comes from the local inhabitants cry of "deo vero" (our god is real) as opposed to the God of the protestant Helvetians.
